- MariaDB offers a flexible growth path from community-driven replication to clusters optimized for global scalability and mission-critical stability.
Community feedback is an important part of MariaDB, and recently, you made your voices heard regarding the inclusion of Galera Cluster in the 12.3 series. We want to extend a sincere thank you to everyone who reached out – especially Frédéric (lefred) Descamps and René Bonvanie, whose impassioned perspectives were instrumental in our review.
We’ve thoroughly considered your feedback and decided that now is not the time for a major change. This means that the upcoming release of MariaDB Community Server 12.3 will include Galera Cluster libraries.
Robust High Availability Options with MariaDB
MariaDB is widely recognized as having the most varied and robust options for high availability solutions. From standard replication – both asynchronous and semi-synchronous – to automatic failover, multimaster replication and Raft-based consensus clustering for more rigorous demands of large-scale, high-concurrency commercial deployments.
MariaDB continues to deliver innovation directly to our community users and also with enterprise offerings for our customers. Recent enhancements available in MariaDB Community Server that further enhance our high availability options include:
- Binlog stored in InnoDB: Enhancing crash safety and performance consistency. Initial tests show 4x performance improvements for write heavy workloads.
- Robust Structure Changes: Full replication support for ALTER TABLEs with structure changes.
- Expanded Temporal Table: Full temporal table support in replication.
- Simplified Configuration: Adding default values for the CHANGE MASTER TO replication command to streamline setup.
For organizations that need additional stability and scalability, we provide two paths within our enterprise portfolio:
- MariaDB Enterprise Cluster: Built on Galera and optimized for rock-solid stability in mission-critical production. It includes features critical for large-scale operations, such as comprehensive monitoring tools, easier management, and seamless integration with MariaDB Enterprise Server features.
- MariaDB Advanced Cluster (Tech Preview): Powered by the Raft protocol for improved scalability and data consistency across geographic regions. It provides access to the newest clustering innovations and advanced features for disaster recovery, security, and high-volume transaction processing, ensuring your database infrastructure is future-proof.
MariaDB remains committed to driving innovation for both our customers and community.
By collaborating closely with the MariaDB Foundation, our dedicated community and our customers, we’re committed to cementing MariaDB’s position at the forefront of the industry.
