Get started

Galera Cluster runs active-active nodes with synchronous replication. If a node fails, the others keep serving traffic and the cluster repairs itself, so your application stays online without manual work.

MaxScale automatically splits traffic. Adding nodes scales read throughput without code changes, but writes cannot scale because all nodes still write the same data in the background.

MaxScale is a database proxy that routes queries, splits reads from writes and balances load. After a failure,, it sends writes to the appropriate node, promotes a new primary, and replays transactions to restore consistency.

You run one or the other. Galera is best suited for low-latency networks that need strong consistency. Raft commits writes on majority agreement, which suits geo-distributed deployments where cross-region latency matters.

MariaDB offers comparable reliability and scale, with multi-master clustering like Oracle RAC. Because it is open source and runs on commodity hardware with no specialized storage, most teams run it at a much lower cost.

Anywhere. Deploy on premises, in any public cloud or across hybrid setups. The Kubernetes Operator provisions and manages clustered MariaDB with declarative config, handling failover and recovery across environments.
